ROBO-STOX brings you a round up of the most exciting news and developments in the world of robotics and automation this week. Here are the highlights from Oct. 11-17:
BOTS TO WATCH: Robo Business announced the winners of the 2014 Game Changer Awards. Expect to hear these names time and time again on the robotics market:
MILITARY MUSE: Elbit Systems has been awarded a $12.7 million, two-year contract to manufacture specialized military helmets. This contract is with the U.S. Army and will produce helmets, out of its Fort Worth, TX facility, that increase situational awareness and give target information for helicopter pilots.
AeroVironment was also recently awarded a $19 million contract by the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) to develop a new class of maritime unmanned aircrafts. This will make launching UAVs from smaller ships easier and cheaper.
BEST ON THE MARKET: TechNavio released a report that found the Global Service Robot Market is set to grow at a CAGR of 16.5 percent between 2013-2018. These robots are divided into two categories: personal and professional. Functions can range anywhere between in-home entertainment to surgically assistive robots. If one thing’s for certain, service robots are going to quickly integrate into our daily life.
THE DOWNLOW ON DRONES: With all the talk of cyber-attacks and breaches in cyber-security this year, the Pentagon is now using Electronic Armor to protect drones from hacking anywhere in the world. This will digitally safeguard the technology and keep the unmanned aerial vehicles from being brought down.
